ELC into P1 Transition Information August 2026

If your child turns 5 years old between 1 March 2026 and 28 February 2027, you should register them to start primary school in August 2026.

You should receive a P1 letter at the beginning of November. This letter explains how to register your child and how to make a placing request, if you would like your child to attend an out of catchment primary school, please visit www.midlothian.gov.uk/schoolplace.

Please contact your child’s early learning and childcare/childminder setting where your child is registered to ensure address details are correct.

Registration week opens online at 9:00am on 17 November 2025 at www.midlothian.gov.uk/schoolplace.

Transition visits between school staff and your child’s key worker in your ELC setting will take place in May/June.
